Following a dominant 120-100 win on Sunday for their first win in the 2021 NBA Finals, the Milwaukee Bucks can even the series with the Phoenix Suns with a repeat performance in Game 4 on Wednesday. The Bucks needed someone other than Giannis Antetokounmpo to step up and they got just that, though the two-time MVP had another huge game and was nearly unstoppable. After suffering their worst loss of the postseason, the Suns will look to regroup after falling to 6-3 SU and ATS on the road in the playoffs.

Odds Analysis

The favored team has won and covered in each of the first three games which bodes well for the Bucks, who hit the board laying 4-points. In fact no game has been decided by single digits with the Suns winning by 13 and 10 at home and the Bucks following up with their 20-point decision on Sunday. And Sunday’s win was huge for the Bucks in that it not only cut their series deficit in half, it also ended a five-game SU and ATS losing streak to the Suns. I guess you could say the Bucks got a couple of monkeys off their back. While every game has been decided by double figures the spread has remained similar. Phoenix closed at -5 in Game 1 and -4.5 in Game 2. The Bucks were 4.5-point faves in Game 3.

Phoenix Suns

The Suns will lean on their NBA-best road record to try and take command of the series. They went 24-12 during the regular season and won six of their first eight road games this postseason before falling in Game 3. That 20-point setback was their largest of the playoffs and worst since a 32-point drubbing in Atlanta on May 5. Keeping Deandre Ayton out of foul trouble and getting a better game from Devin Booker will help on Wednesday. Booker struggled from the get-go making just 3 of 14 shots for 10 points. It was his lowest point total of the playoffs and the fewest he scored since notching eight points in the fourth game of the season. Without two of their three top players the Suns were no match.

Chris Paul did all he could but he was hounded relentlessly by Jrue Holiday. Paul scored 19 points on 8 of 14 shooting but committed four turnovers. He coughed the ball up 10 times total in the last two games, not something you want from your point guard. I don’t expect Booker to shoot the basketball as poorly as he did on Sunday, but the Suns have to figure out a way to stop Giannis. They went small when Ayton got in foul trouble and the Bucks just went over them. The Suns had a hard time rebounding and were outscored 20-2 on second chance points. “I have to do better. Our players get in line with that. Across the board, we have to have a better understanding of the type of team we’re going to play from here on out,” Monty Williams said.

Milwaukee Bucks

Sunday’s version was the Bucks that led the NBA in scoring during the regular season. Giannis was a beast, but unlike Game 2 he got help from the guys who needed to help out. It is after all a team game and despite what some people say one man can’t do it by himself. Giannis was scintillating in Game 3 scoring 41 points on 14 of 23 shooting. He was so confident and relaxed on the floor that he even made 13 of 17 free throws. He was also a beast taking the ball to the hole to earn more foul shots than the entire Suns team (16).

For whatever reason homecourt advantage is more pronounced in the NBA than any other sport. The Bucks rebounded against the Nets in the Eastern Conference semifinals winning two home games after dropping the first two on the road. They are faced with a similar situation ahead of Game 4 and have an 8-1 SU and 6-3 ATS record at Fiserv Forum. While the series isn’t over if they lose, the chances of winning the O’Brien Trophy are much better with a victory. And getting Holiday and Khris Middleton involved will help even the series. The two combined to shoot 50 percent from the floor with eight three-pointers and 39 points on Sunday. They’ll have to do it again on Wednesday.

As efficient as the Bucks were offensively on Sunday they were better on defense. I don’t expect Booker to struggle two games in a row, but the Suns had a hard time stopping Giannis and his mates. The Bucks will be as intense on Wednesday and they will make this a three-game series with another home win.

NBA Score Prediction: Bucks 112, Suns 106
