New York Mets Would Offer Huge Payout to Gamblers

When the New York Mets were down and out, the online oddsmakers didn't necessarily back away from their early season odds assessment for New York to win the 2008 World Series. Then again, at the peak of their disparity, the Mets were listed at exceptional value.

Don't look now, the lowly Mets of the first half of this season are now in first place in the National League East.

At the All Star Break, Gambling911.com told of how the New York Mets were still listed with +1300 odds for the potential of a $1300 win for every $100 bet at BetOnline.com.

"You can't really beat that value," our own Dan Shapiro said at the time. "The Mets have all the time in the world to build on that record and make a run for the 2008 World Series."

BetOnline.com management has reacted fast. They've now posted the Mets odds to win the 2008 World Series at +600 or 6/1 with the payout potential of $600 for every $100 bet.

"That is still a great value," Shapiro said on Thursday. "When you consider only 7 teams have better records than the Mets right now."

One of those teams just happens to be that other New York team, the Yankees, who have also pulled away out of oblivion since the first half of the season.

Subway Series? Perhaps. Who would have thunk it earlier in the season. The Yankees at press time had 56 wins but were in the toughest division with Boston and Tampa Bay actually maintaining better records.
