Oscars Odds to Win Best Director 2019 - Alfonso Cuaron: Price Slashed

The odds to win Best Director at the 2019 Oscars had Alfonso Cuaron (Roma) priced at -2000 but suddenly, just hours before the start of the Oscars, his price had come down to -325 with an influx on Yorgos Lanthimos, now at +180.

Cuaron WAS a LOCK to win Best Director, but at -325 he no longer is.

Cuaron also produced, shot, and co-edited it, his semi-autobiographical film is set in 1970 and 1971 in the colonial Roma neighborhood of Mexico City.

The film had its world premiere at the 75th Venice International Film Festival on 30 August 2018, where it won the Golden Lion. It has received 10 nominations at the 91st Academy Awards.  Netflix had acquired distribution rights to the film.

As Cuarón himself puts it: “I hope that the film is not telegraphing or trying to make a statement. It’s like life. Life is a fresco… like a huge mural in which we choose our own experience and we taint everything through the prism of our own experience.”

Roma itself will be competing with Green Brook primarily but has a decent price of -330.  This mean you would have to bet $33 to win $10 and that $33 is refunded as long as Roma wins.  In other words, every $33 bet results in a $10 profit.
