Children Will be Encouraged to Bet

The Irish-based betting firm known for its outrageous gambling advertisements now says such ads should be banned.

Paddy Power co-founder of Paddy Power Stewart Kenny has claimed that gambling advertising and sponsorship is “normalising” betting for children.

Kenny told The Times that he had respect for Peter Jackson, the chief executive at Paddy Power Betfair, but that he was “completely wrong” when it comes to advertising.

“There needs to be a radical change. It’s normalising gambling for kids,” Mr Kenny said. “I don’t think any parent in the country really appreciates being bombarded with the amount of gambling advertising.  I don’t even think it’s in the interests of the betting  industry because I think it’s alienating them from all the parents in the country.”

Will Paraplegic Olympian Walk, Gambling Confessional

Paddy Power is the same company that brought us the infamous paraplegic Olympian runner Oscar Pistorius murder trial betting odds advertisements that featured an Oscar statuette as part of a cross-marketing campaign looking to capitalize on the popularity of the Academy Awards wagering, and the caption “Oscar Time. Money back if he walks. We will refund all losing bets on the Oscar Pistorius trial if he is found not guilty”.

Paddy once sponsored a confessional "sin bin" outside Our Lady & St Etheldreda Church in Newmarket.

The betting firm has been fined on numerous occasions.
