Max Verstappen was the EVEN odds favorite to win this weekend's Miami Grand Prix (2022) while Chargles Leclerc offered payout odds of $150 for every $100 bet or $1500 for every $1000 bet.

Belgian driver Verstappen is the defending Formula One world champion but it is Leclerc, from Monaco, that's been winning these days.

Verstappen slipped to sixth in the overall standings, 46 points behind Leclerc, who won Sunday's race by more than 20 seconds over Verstappen's teammate, Sergio Pérez.

"We're already miles behind," Verstappen said after the race to F1. "I don't even want to think about the championship fight at the moment. I think it's more important to finish races."

Mexico's Sergio Perez is the only other competitor with single digit payout odds at 9-1.

Perez arrived in Miami a week early, by accident, after he mistook ‘may’ for ‘today’ in a Red Bull promotional video.

"It's great that Formula 1 continues to develop and grow," Perez told The Athletic in regard to the first ever Miami Grand Prix, which is expected to be a major boom to the Miami area economy. "You can see it everywhere we go—people are starting to recognize you on the street more and more often. But if there are too many races, it will be bad. At least for me. Right now we are constantly immersed in work, because there are a lot of races. We simply don't have enough time to spend time with our families.

"I personally have two children. I think if the calendar expands even more, I will definitely no longer compete in Formula 1," Perez said.
