Saints Still -300 Favorites to Win NFC, Brees Out, Hill to Start, Prop Bets

A second opinion ensures that Saints starting quarterback Drew Brees will be out for at least one game, if not more.

The Saints are -300 favorites to win the NFC South with Tampa Bay breathing down their backs. The Bucs are currently a half game off from New Orleans.  They pay out $15 for every $10 bet to win the division.

The second opinion confirmed an original diagnosis that Brees has a collapsed lung and a total of five fractured ribs on both sides of his body, a source told ESPN's Ed Werder on Wednesday.  Doctors have not yet determined a time frame for Brees' return,

The Saints will face the 3-6 Falcons on Sunday.  Taysom Hill, not Jameis Winston, was named starter in Brees' place.  Winston will be the backup.  New Orleans is seen as having formidable backup quarterbacks.  The line has dropped from -7 to -4.  The number had been hovering around -4.5 and -5 with uncertainty as to the Week 11 starter.

Winston played most of the second half in New Orleans' 27-13 win over the San Francisco 49ers following Brees' injury. Hill played seven snaps at QB during the second half and regularly fills in for Brees even when the Saints starter is healthy.

"Both of these young guys have progressed and have advanced, understanding what we're doing, and there's a confidence level we have in both players," Payton said of Winston and Hill on Wednesday morning. "They're different-type players. But I think it's a strong room, and we're gonna lean heavily on a few of these other guys right now."

The Buccaneers will face a 6-3 Rams team Monday night.
