Saints Line With Jameis Winston Starting in Week 1

It's official.  Jameis Winston will be starting for the New Orleans Saints in Week 1.  This was not a given, so let's see how the oddsmakers and betting public reacted to the news.

Remarkably, there had been no change in the line as of Friday morning immediately following confirmation.  It could be that Winston starting was already baked into the equation. ESPN's Adam Schefter broke the news shortly after 9 am ET.  The line could still move in the coming hours or over the weekend.

Most books had the Saints as a +3 home dog.

It will be Winston's first start since the Tampa Bay Buccaneers decided to move on from him following the 2019 season.  We all know what became of the Bucs two seasons later under the helm of quarterback Tom Brady.  They would go on to win Super Bowl 55.

But Winston focused more on the success the Saints have had under now retired starting quarterback Drew Brees.

"I would love to carry that torch from him," Winston said earlier this year when he got emotional while talking about how much it meant to him to spend last season as Brees' backup. "I would love to be able to provide the excitement and joy and resilience that he provided for this city."
