The Villanova vs. Xavier betting line was coming in at Musketeers +5.5 with some books still holding at +6.  Nearly 87% of the action was on the Wildcats.

This one was trending downwards from -6.5 to -5.5.  Sagarin suggests a line of Musketeers -4.5 here.  Villanova does have a 7 ranking for covering over the last ten games overall.  Seven of the last ten games in this series have been won by the home team but the Wildcats have won three of those away games.  There is a slight edge here for Xavier but not enough for us to make a pick.

Scores and Stats has Villanova by 7 points.  They write:

"The Wildcats need to get their 3-point shooters on track, as Phil Booth is 3-of-16 from long range in the last two games, while Eric Paschall is 3-of-15 over that stretch and Collin Gillespie is 4-of-25 in the last four contests. Booth had a team-high 26 points versus the Hoyas, while Saddiq Bey chipped in nine points, 10 rebounds, five assists and two steals. Joe Cremo had 14 points versus St. John's last Sunday but went scoreless in a 10-minute run against Georgetown."

The Musketeers 14-13 record may be a bit misleading in situations such as this as they have four double-digit scorers on their roster this season.

Sixers? Knicks? Who Can Challenge Boston in the East this Season?

As the new NBA season gets underway, there is most certainly a sense that the Boston Celtics are the team to beat once again. The 18-time champions really took an “if it’s not broken, don’t try to fix it” policy in the offseason, and it’s hard to argue with the tactic.
