What Are Alternative Betting Sites to TwinSpires in Texas?

You will see many advertisements for TwinSpires ahead of this year's Kentucky Derby race but if you live in Texas, you'll need to find an alternative.  (BetOnline does take bets on on the Kentucky Derby from the Lone Star State).

Texas lawmakers in 2011 amended the Texas Racing Act to prohibit advance deposit wagering on horse racing (taking bets online).  Hence, TwinSpires could no longer take bets from those living in Texas.  Other websites like BetOnline get around this as they operate outside the US.  TwinSpires must adhere to all US state regulations or else risk having their license revoked.

TwinSpires did file a lawsuit on the basis that the amendment violated the Commerce Clause of the US Constitution but that suit was later decided against the horse betting firm.

BetOnline is an attractive option being that they are one of the top 5 largest online betting companies in North America and offer a generous welcome bonus (max bonus $1000).  They also advertise a 7% track rebate.
