Why is Doc Rivers Among Those Favored?

Rivers tells us to ignore the rumors.  He's committed to ensuring the playoffs-bound 76ers are going to make it all the way.

“I think it’s disrespectful to all the other coaches,” said Rivers. “If I can say something about my job, then I would say this that I don’t like has changed. I just think the rumors about coaches taking jobs, coaches getting fired, I just think for my profession, it makes our job so much harder and I think it’s so unfair.”

Rivers was not exactly thrilled by the way outgoing Lakers head coach Frank Vogel got kicked to the curb.

“I think the Frank Vogel thing was so unfair,” Rivers continued. “We work just like you guys (the media) work. How would you like for your job to be mentioned every day even if it’s somebody wanting to have you? It’s just not right. I hate it. There’s nothing I can do about it, but we talk a lot here and everybody’s happy here. We want to get this right.”

Rivers is becoming NBA royalty and that alone makes him an excellent fit for the Lakers organization.

He began his NBA coaching career when he was hired as head coach of the Orlando Magic. Rivers was named the 2000 NBA Coach of the Year in his first season with the Magic. Rivers went on to coach the Boston Celtics, the Los Angeles Clippers, and the Philadelphia 76ers. He won an NBA championship in 2008 as head coach of the Celtics.
