The state itself does not have any sportsbooks based within its own borders, however, the U.S. Supreme Court paved the way for legalization nationwide last year.

North Carolina, not widely considered a gambling-friendly state, has just introduced legislation that could bring sportsbooks to the state.

State Sen. Jim Davis has introduced legislation that would allow the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians to offer sports betting at two casinos – Harrah’s Cherokee Resort and Harrah’s Cherokee Valley River Casino & Hotel.  The state of North Caorlina would likely not permit mobile wagering statewide.

What the bill does allow is wagering on the state's college teams.  North Carolina is home to some of the most successful College Basketball programs in the nation including Duke and UNC.
