Mets outfielder Yoenis Céspedes failed to show up to the stadium in Atlanta on Sunday for the team's game against the Braves. General manager Brodie Van Wagenen issued a statement saying the team was unsure of his whereabouts as attempts to contact him have been unsuccessful.
"He did not reach out to management with any explanation for his absence," Van Wagenen said in a statement. "Our attempts to contact him have been unsuccessful."
By late Sunday afternoon, Van Wagenen confirmed that Céspedes had opted out of the 2020 season "for Covid related reasons".
