It will be Spain vs. England in this year's World Cup final.
Spain is the -170 favorite in this one with Argentina was promising a payout of $135 for every $100 bet (opening line). The payout odds were greater than 7-1 just prior to 4:45 pm EDT.
England had not won a World Cup since way back in 1966. And it appeared as if they were well on their way to playing in the final. England had been leading up until the final minutes.
Then this happened....
Enzo Fernández tied the match with a spectacular strike from distance in the 86th minute. For Fernández, it seemed only a matter of time that one of his long shots found the back of the net. In fact, it was a long shot from Fernández that forced Jordan Pickford to make a save, leading to a corner. Lionel Messi played the ball short and found Fernandez on the edge of the box, and he unleashed a screamer that curled away from Pickford's reach.
Lautaro Martínez headed home a cross from Lionel Messi to give Argentina a 2-1 lead in the second minute of injury time.
Spain had already secured their spot in the World Cup final with a 2-0 win over France Tuesday.
Spain has previously won the World Cup in 2010. They have made 17 appearancees with their first being in 1934.
