Barbie and Oppenheimer or "Barbenheimer"

Let's face it, the Oscars awards shows in recent years have been duds, both with viewers and gamblers.

That could be about to change this year with "Barbenheimer" to duke it out.  Yes, actually films people paid to see and were critically acclaimed.  What a concept.

BetOnline has released its Oscars odds.  The betting firm anticipates this could be the most wagered on Academy Awards in years thanks to the inclusion of "Barbie" and "Oppenheimer".

Oppenheimer is the favorite in a number of categories, including Best Actor Cillian Murphy (-300), Best Director and easy money Christopher Dolan (-2000) and Best Film (-1000).

Dolan is a "lock" but the payout will be a few dollars.  Oppenheimer is a near "lock" to win "Best Picture" but odds are subject to change.  The payout is certainly better than with "Best Director".

Robert Downey, Jr. is another "lock" at -1200 for "Best Supporting Actor".

Barbie is not represented among the favorites in any of the major categories just yet but never before in Oscar history have two summer blockbusters that opened on the same weekend, shown up at the Oscars in the Best Picture category.  That's got to count for something.

In other categories, Emma Stone shows up as the favorite to win "Best Actress" for Poor Things.  She's at -200 and will be battling it out with Lily Gladstone for Killers of the Flower Moon +110.

Da'vine Joy Randolph is the big -2000 favorite for "Best Supporting Actress" for The Holdovers.
