Bookie Beat Down May 21 - Oakland Athletics
Don't look now but the Oakland Athletics are starting to catch on fire, winning seven of their last ten games, including the dreaded "Road Trip of Death". It was a rare four-game streak for the A's...in Toronto no less. They were the one's who got swept last year.
Oakland went 7-3 on a trip to the New York Yankees, Boston, and Toronto, homering in every game. The A's are 12-4 against the AL East.
It's probably the toughest road trip we have all year, and to go 7-3 is amazing," starting pitcher Daniel Mengden said. "We're really hot right now."
Mengden (4-4) allowed no runs on two hits and one walk while striking out two across seven innings as he picked up the win in Sunday's 9-2 victory over the Blue Jays.
This was Oakland's first seven-win trip since April 2014, when the A's swept Minnesota and went 2-1 against the Mariners and Angels.
The A's will face off against Seattle starting Tuesday. They are 3-7 against the Mariners and 3-12 in the last 15 meetings., thus providing bookies with some possible relief. Two of those Oakland wins were in the last four meetings however.
Trevor Cahill starts for Oakland on Tuesday. He has yet to allow more than three runs in an outing but could not find the win column in any of his last four turns (0-2).
