Consensus Handicapper Plays for May 22 - MLB
Key takeaways:
|
A few good consensus plays from the top sports handicappers at the G911 Sports Hub are available Wednesday May 22, 2024.
Diamondbacks/Dodgers Over 8
Los Angeles Dodgers career statistics vs. Ryne Nelson are just 2-for-21 against him. We realize the 22 at bats is a relatively small sampling but the Over definitely is not something we see on the menu.
Nelson was lit up for seven runs by the Tigers last time out, putting his spot in jeopardy, so we certainly get why the Over might be a hot play.
Padres -130
A number of top G911 Sports Hub cappers are on San Diego today but one concern here is we have our leaderboard's best right now, Dan Jones, backing the Reds.
The Bookie, who returns to our MLB leaderboard and is ranked among our most reliable cappers, is also backing San Diego.
Only Jones is on the Reds while the other 6 cappers, all with solid records, backing the Padres.
What does Dan see that everyone else does not?
These teams have pretty much split their series over the last ten games and both have not been in the best form of late.
Padres start Michael King (4.31, 3-4) vs. Reds Nick Martinez (4.23, 1-2).
King was hit hard in Wednesday afternoon’s loss to the Rockies, surrendering six runs on eight hits across his 5 1/3 innings of work. He struck out 11 over seven scoreless innings against the Dodgers.
Nick Martinez has allowed just one home run facing these Padres in 46 appearances but Jurickson Profar, in particular, has been solid against him with 3 hits in 5 at bats.
Martinez yielded five runs — three earned — in five innings to the Padres earlier this month before going to the injury list. He returns to face this same team.
Both these teams have decent enough bullpens.
Padres Solid vs. Righties"The Padres have won four of their last five road games. They are playing well offensively and scored 15 runs in their last three road games. They will play well offensively in this game because they’ve done a great job batting against right-handers and Martinez, who is primarily used out of the bullpen, has struggled on the mound at home, giving up six runs in his last 10 innings. He gave up nine runs in his last two starts against the Padres and will have a hard time slowing them down in this game". Source: Winners and Whiners |
Braves -138
Atlanta had won five straight prior to the Cubs two-game win streak in this series.
Braves Max Fried (3.81, 3-2) vs. Cubs Justin Steele (5.21, 0-1)
The Cubs are 17 for 60 against Fried with four homers. Ian Happ has two of those four home runs but that's the same number he has for the season thus far, so not too concerned with him. Cody Bellinger, however, is hitting .348 against him.
Fried surrendered three runs and nine hits in 4 1/3 innings Friday in a loss to the Padres. Before that he went seven no-hit innings to help Atlanta to a 4-1 win over the Mets.
In 55 at bats, Steele has permitted 16 hits and 6 RBI's (.291) off this Atlanta roster.
Ozzie Albies is 4-for-6 off of him.
Steele allowed six hits, five earned runs and two home runs in 5 2/3 innings and picked up the loss against the Pirates on Thursday. He did not factor into the decision in his prior start after allowing six runs over four innings against the Pirates.
Prior to those two starts, Steele pitched 4 2/3 shutout innings on Monday in a no-decision against the Padres.
We suspect Steele will be bringing his A Game into this one.
Fried is unbeaten in his five career starts against the Cubs while Steele is unbeaten against the Braves in his outings against them.
Seven of the last ten games Atlanta has played in has seen them score three or fewer runs and it is hard to see that trend changing against Steele.
Likewise, the Cubs have scored 3 or fewer runs in half of their last ten games. They've allowed 3 or fewer in half of those as well.
We like the Under 8.5, especially with the number coming down. None of the G911 Sports Hub cappers were backing the total as of this writing.

What Happens to My Orioles-Cardinals Bets Following Tuesday Night Game Postponement
(May 21, 2024) - The Orioles and St. Louis Cardinals suspended their game Tuesday night after a rainstorm rolled over Busch Stadium ahead of the bottom of the sixth inning. They plan to resume the contest, which was tied 1-1 when the grounds crew rolled out the tarp, at 12:15 p.m. Wednesday and play their series finale 30 minutes after.
Sportsbooks have different rules on suspended games just like they do for postponements. Most books may keep the bet active if the game is going to be resumed within 24 to 36 hours.
With DraftKings, for example, Bets on games suspended after they have started will have action as long as the game is resumed within 36 hours of the original start time.
