Juan Soto was favored by oddsmakers at BetOnline to land with the New York Mets and that's exactly where he ended up.  The payout would have been $200 for every $100 bet with the most recent odds.  However, back in October, the Mets would have paid out $600 for every $100 bet.

Soto, the acclaimed outfielder, has agreed to a monumental 15-year, $765 million contract with the Mets, setting a new benchmark for professional sports contracts.

This deal, which reportedly includes no deferred payments, could potentially escalate in value beyond $800 million with performance-based escalators.

Soto's choice of the Mets marks a pivotal moment in MLB free agency. This signing not only underscores Soto's value to the team but also intensifies the rivalry between New York's baseball giants.

He would have the right to opt out of the contract after the 2029 season if the Mets don't at that time raise the contract to $805 million by increasing the average annual value by $4 million annually. Soto will get a $75 million signing bonus, payable upon the deal's approval by the commissioner's office.

The New York Yankees' final offer to retain Soto was for $760 million over 16 years, a second person familiar with the talks said, also on condition of anonymity because that detail was not announced. That offer had a $47.5 million average annual value.
