The Los Angeles Dodgers begin what is probably their most important series of the baseball betting season on Tuesday as they face the San Diego Padres.  The Dodgers are six games behind the Padres in the National League and if they would happen to get swept in this series they would effectively be out of the race at nine games back.

SBG Globalcurrent line: Padres - 111, Total 6.5 Over -120.

The Dodgers are sending Chad Billingsley to the mound on Tuesday night and that is one positive for them. Billingsley is 8-5 on the season with a 4.22 ERA.  He was brilliant last time out against the Giants as he threw a complete game shutout.  Billingsley pitched well earlier this season against the Padres as he threw 7 1/3 scoreless innings.  In his career against the Padres he is 9-4 with a 2.51 ERA.

The Padres are scheduled to send Jon Garland on Tuesday. He is 9-6 on the MLB bettingseason with a 3.61 ERA.  He allowed four runs on six hits in five innings in his last start.  In his last three starts he is 1-1 with a 5.82 ERA. In his career against the Dodgers he is 2-1 with a 3.75 ERA.

Looking at the betting stats, the Dodgers are 3-9 in their last 12 road games vs. a right-handed starter. The Dodgers are 0-4 in their last 4 road games. The Dodgers are 5-1 in Billingsley’s last 6 road starts. The Dodgers are 6-1 in Billingsley’s last 7 starts vs. the Padres.

The Padres are 6-0 in their last 6 home games vs. a right-handed starter. The Padres are 6-0 in their last 6 home games. The Padres are 7-3 in Garland’s last 10 home starts.

Looking at the total, the Under is 4-1 in the Dodgers last 5 overall. The Over is 5-2-1 in the Dodgers last 8 road games. The Under is 5-2 in Billingsley’s last 7 road starts. The Over is 4-0 in the Padres last 4 vs. the National League West. The Over is 12-3 in the Padres last 15 overall. The Over is 9-3-1 in the Padres last 13 home games vs. a right-handed starter. The Over is 4-0 in Garland’s last 4 starts overall. The Under is 5-0 in the last 5 meetings between the two teams in San Diego.
