  • Mets have the 2nd best record in the league since June 1.
  • Marlins are among the worst teams in the league right now.
  • Despite these disparities, Miami has played well against New York of late.

The New York Mets have been playing very good baseball since June 1, owning the 2nd best record in Major League Baseball going back to that date (25-12).  Remarkably, their bullpen ranks among the botton ten over this span.

The Miami Marlins are one of the worst teams.  You'll be hard pressed to find a time in which the Marlins won more than two games in their last ten.  Well, they did win three of their last ten ahead of the All Star break if you are looking for a bright spot.

New York should have betting value in this series as they are playing in Miami. The Mets are 4-4 vs. the Marlins in their last eight meetings.

Mets vs. Marlins Power Rankings

MLB.com's final power rankings coming into second half of season.

New York Mets (No. 14)

"Call it Grimace, call it the team meeting, call it forever weird Mets kismet, but a team that looked dead in the water right before Memorial Day is now in the thick of the playoff chase. The offense has carried this team for nearly two months now. This is becoming nearly as happy a surprise as last season’s team was an unhappy one.  Reasonable Expectation: Make the playoffs, even though falling short would feel a lot less frustrating than what happened in 2023."

Miami Marlins (No. 29)

"Much of the next couple of weeks will revolve around a potential trade of Jazz Chisholm Jr., but the Marlins, after a year in the postseason, are back to looking toward the future. Which is why top pitching prospect Max Meyer, when he inevitably gets called back up, will be a key player to watch.  Reasonable Expectation: Meyer ramping up to be the staff ace next year."

How to Be a Baseball Bookie

Just think about it, on average there are 162 regular MLB game per season. If a gambler bets $100 on one team per season with a 10% vig, you can earn $1,620 from them. Multiply that by the number of friends you have that follow baseball and it can become quite high.

Mets Pitching

Sean Manaea (6-3, 3.46 ERA)

His most recent appearance came on Friday against the Colorado Rockies when the lefty threw seven innings, surrendering three earned runs while allowing five hits.  Opponents have a .218 batting average against him.  Manaea is seeking his fourth straight quality start.

Luis Servino (6-3, 3.78 ERA)

Servino has struggled against a few of these Marlins players, including Nick Gordon, who is 3 for 4 against him.

Marlins Pitching

Trevor Rogers (1-9, 4.72 ERA)

Rogers allowed two runs on two hits in 5 2/3 innings in a no-decision against the Reds his last start.  He permitted two runs over 5 1/3 innings in the start prior to that one.

Edward Cabrera (1-3, 8.26 ERA)

As tempting as it may be, don't do it.  Cabrerra has been solid against these Mets in 52 appearances, allowing 9 RBIs and 3 home runs for .211.  Four of five batters who've faced Cabrera four or more times is under .300 against him.
