On Thursday, after nine years as the manager of the Seattle Mariners, Scott Servais was fired.

“It has been a very difficult two-month stretch, a particularly tough 10 days, but trying to do what we can do with a team that is telling us we need to do something a little different than what we have,” Mariners executive vice president of baseball operations Jerry Dipoto said

In mid-June, the Mariners had a 10 game lead in the AL West, and now they trail the Astros by 5.5 games.

They also are 7.5 games out of the wild card race.

The old adage of pitching wins baseball doesn’t hold true in this case. The Mariners are first in MLB in pitching and dead last in hitting.

All this adds up to a 64-64 record. Maybe balance is what wins baseball (and life). Ask Mr. Miyagi! “Daniel son, balance not only in karate, also in life.”

The oddsmakers at BetOnline.ag have updated the next manager to be fired odds.
