Padres Among Hottest MLB Teams Right Now in a Great Situation This Weekend
If you are looking for betting value in the MLB this weekend, look no further than the San Diego Padres.
They are a team that has won eight of their last ten overall, 13 of their last 15 overall, and playing the lowly Marlins in Miami this through Sunday. That should keep us under that -180 price.
The Padres are coming off a sweep against Pittsburgh in their most recent series and to think they didn't even play well.
San Diego mounted a comeback playing from behind Thursday to tie the game 6-6 on Jackson Merrill’s second home run of the game, with one out in the ninth inning. This would become the fifth extra-inning game win of the season.
“Both teams wanted to win really bad,” Merrill said. “I appreciate that from the other team too. They didn’t give up. They gave us a real challenge. So I love it. I love baseball games.”

Friday
San Diego opened as a -135 favorite in Miami on Friday.
That low -135 price is courtesy of San Diego starter Martin Perez, who is just 2-5 with a 4.96 ERA.
Take that and the fact he has faced these Marlins on 34 occasions and they are .382 against him and that's a bit of an OUCH.
Perez though has pitched well over his last few starts. He held the Rockies to just one run over six innings in a no-decision Saturday and shut out Arizona before that.
There might be a good case for the Over 8.5 here. Six of the last ten have stayed Under this number however. San Diego is scoring like crazy and the Marlin are allowing five or more runs in half of their last ten.
Marlins have Edward Cabrera starting. He shut the Braves out over five innings on Sunday in an 8-0 victory. He struck out eight and walked two.
Consider the Over 8.5 here but consider it carefully. We're not entirely confident about jumping all over the Padres, even though we currently rank them No. 1 in our Daily MLB Rankings.
Sunday
Dylan Cease we'll probably be getting close to our cut off price of -180 but he's permitted just two hits in 18 at bats against these Padres. Not a large enough sampling but Cease is also coming off allowing just three hits and one run across 5 2/3 innings in an 8-1 win over the Dodgers in his last full game. His more recent start was cut short due to rain (one inning). Expect him to be fresh for this one.
