Philadelphia continues to play well after the first week in June.  Nevertheless, we Could start to see some regression due to injuries and a lack of offense from some players. The Phillies should be considered among your betting options on a daily basis.

Padres @ Phillies (Tuesday)

(June 18, 2024) - The Phillies are 8-2 in the last ten meetings versus the Padres.  Philadelphia is a -144 favorite here.

Philadelphia Phillies career statistics vs. Michael King are .353 (12 hits in 34 at bats).  Bryson Stott is 3-for-3 against him with two homers.

King struck out a season-high 12 and allowed two runs over five innings on Wednesday in a no-decision against the Athletics.   Before that he struck out five over five shutout innings on Friday in a win over the Diamondbacks.

Aaron Nola allowed eight runs in 3 2/3 innings and got the loss against the Red Sox on Thursday.  Prior to that, however, he fired seven shutout innings on Wednesday in a win over the Brewers.

Nola has only permitted two homers and five RBI's in 104 at bats versus the Padres current roster.

Philadelphia should be a good play today.

Padres @ Phillies (Wednesday)

(June 18, 2024) - The Phillies opened as a -165 favorite Wednesday with Ranger Suarez (10-1, 1.77 ERA) starting for Philadelphia.

He's allowed 16 hits in 75 at bats vs. the Padres.  No home runs and just 4 RBI's.  Suárez scattered six hits across 6 2/3 innings in a no-decision on Friday against the Orioles.  He had a win prior to that game.

Matt Waldron is 4-6 with a 3.66 ERA for San Diego.

Waldron kept the Mets at bay through seven innings on Friday allowing just three hits and two earned runs. He walked two and struck out two.  He had a victory prior to that one and has pitched well over his last few starts.  This should keep the price under -180.

Assuming this one does stay under -180, Philly should have this one.

Power Ratings (June 15, 2024)

(June 15, 2024) "The frustration of how Sunday’s game ended (vs. the Mets) -- and the Phillies probably shouldn’t freak out about José Alvarado, he had given up just one run before then since May 17 -- shouldn’t ruin anyone’s thoughts on that London excursion. If the Phillies make it as far as they think they can this year, one of the lasting memories, and most vivid images, will be of Bryce Harper doing his soccer celebration after homering on Saturday. It was fantastic: We’ll see it on his Hall of Fame highlight reel someday." - Will Leitch, MLB.com

Taijuan Walker @ Orioles

(June 15, 2024) - Taijuan Walker is 3-1 with a 5.40 ERA.  His team is 5-1 in the last six versus the Orioles dating back to 2021.

Walker has permitted just 9 hits in 47 at bats versus this current Orioles roster.  They have only two RBIs and zero home runs against him.

Walker gave up two runs in 5 1/3 innings with six strikeouts in a no-decision against the Mets on Sunday.  He struggled in his prior start and does not have a win over his last five starts.

Grayson Rodriguez allowed two runs on two hits in 5 2/3 in a win over the Rays on Sunday and has won his last two starts for Baltimore.

This one looks like an Over 8.5 to us.

Power Ratings (June 8, 2024)

(June 8, 2024) "The Phillies will see their depth tested with Brandon Marsh (hamstring) and Kody Clemens (back spasms) landing on the IL, joining Trea Turner (hamstring), who remains without a timetable for his return. The injuries to Marsh and Clemens aren't serious, but the Phillies' bench was already a little weak with Whit Merrifield, Cristian Pache and backup catcher Garrett Stubbs all providing little offense. Veteran outfielder David Dahl, an All-Star with the Rockies in 2019, got the call. He has battled a ton of injuries in his career and played four games in the majors last season and none in 2022. He went 3-for-5 with a home run in his first two games." -- David Schoenfield, ESPN

Key Takeaways (June 8, 2024)

(June 8, 2024)

  • Philadelphia was starting to cool down just a bit at the plate, scoring four or fewer runs in four straight games entering Saturday.
  • The Phillies had a 1.99 ERA in their previous 12 games ahead of Sunday's play.
  • The Phillies are fourth in the bigs with a .855 team OPS with runners in scoring position.
  • The Phillies have the best ERA by a team in their last 10 games, with an ERA of 1.67.

Zack Wheeler vs. the Red Sox (Tuesday)

(June 8, 2024) In 67 appearances facing off against this Boston roster, Wheeler has bee roughed up by allowing 23 hits and 8 RBIs.  Wheeler yielded one run over seven innings in a win over the Brewers his last start and blanked the Giants for six innings, allowing just two hits, in a no-decision before that.

Boston was winning around 40% of their games of late.  With this series taking place in Boston, the MLB betting lines should see some value for the Phillies.

Red Sox Tuesday starter Kutter Crawford allowed six runs (four earned) on five hits in six innings in a loss to the Braves.  He struggled in his previous start as well.

Tuesday is not the best position for the Phillies in our opinion.

Christopher Sanchez vs. the Red Sox (Wednesday)

(June 8, 2024) Sanchez allowed one run over six innings on Tuesday in a no-decision against the Brewers.  He had a win his prior start.

In 48 appearances vs. this Phillies roster, Nick Pivetta allowed 11 RBIs.  JT Realmuto is 5-for-13 against him with three RBIs.  Bryce Harper has two homers against him in 11 at bats.

Pivetta allowed only one hit over seven innings Wednesday as the Red Sox shut out the Braves 9-0.  He is yet to put together two or more consecutive wins so far this season.

Atlanta will enter this series 6-4 over the last ten versus the Yankees dating back to 2020.  But Friday's and Saturday's games really seem to favor New York early.
