The folks from Covers.com have put together a very good 2010 NCAA Tournament Brackets article with betting tips and office pool advise.

Covers.com, we should note, is widely considered the authority when it comes to sports betting.  They are certainly the biggest site of their kind in that sector so they know a little something about NCAA Tournament brackets success.

They give 15 great pointers.

First and most importantly: Scoring Margin.  With that in mind, Covers has listed a few teams that should excel in this area:

"The best teams win without their A game and blowout teams when they do have it. That's why scoring margin is the most important stat in the NCAA Tournament. The top 10 tournament teams in scoring margin are: BYU, Kansas, Duke, Murray State, Syracuse, Kentucky, St. Mary's, Ohio State and Baylor."

Then there's the point spread.  Every year Gambling911.com advises to follow the money.

"Pay more attention to pointspreads than seeding. When the 11 seed is a pick 'em against the 6 seed, the betting markets are telling you all you need to know," advises Covers Expert Teddy Sevransky.

Top sports handicapper added another piece advise that should help with your 2010 NCAA Tournament brackets:  Respect the coaches.

"Teams in the NCAA tournament take on their coach's personalities. Tom Izzo's Michigan State Spartans shine in this event when facing an opponent that covered the spread by five or more points in its last game, going 19-2 SU and ATS.

"Also, Bill Self (Kansas) is 11-0 straight up and against the spread in this tourney when facing an opponent off an upset, underdog win in its last game."

More NCAA Tournament brackets tips and betting strategies to consider, according to Covers.com, include:  focusing on 6th-seeded team, which Covers.com points out are vulnerable; the bigger the pool, the more chances you should take; and respect the number one seeds.

"They earned those No. 1 seeds because they've been the best teams in college basketball," Sevransky says.  "Never call for a No. 1 seed to get upset before the Sweet 16 at the earliest, and always include at least two No. 1 seeds in your Final Four."

Another very important stat, one Covers.com believes is the second most important:  Pay attention to strength of schedule.

The top 10 tournament teams in non-conference strength of schedule, according to the Pomeroy Ratings, are: Butler, California, Georgetown, Xavier West Virginia, Oakland, Temple, Kansas State and Old Dominion.

The top 10 in overall strength of the schedule: Georgetown, West Virginia, Kansas State, Duke, Texas A&M, Villanova, Wake Forest, Georgia Tech, California and Clemson.

Sixers? Knicks? Who Can Challenge Boston in the East this Season?

As the new NBA season gets underway, there is most certainly a sense that the Boston Celtics are the team to beat once again. The 18-time champions really took an “if it’s not broken, don’t try to fix it” policy in the offseason, and it’s hard to argue with the tactic.
