Dubai World Cup Winner Monterosso Pays 20 to 1 Odds
This year’s Dubai World Cup winner, Monterosso, was a 20-1 long shot who paid $2000 for every $100 bet.
Monterosso, owned by Sheik Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum's stables, beat out Capponi by three lengths. Planteur was another half-length behind. He also finished ahead of favorite So You Think and Game On Dude, which was trained by Bob Baffert and ridden by the first female jockey appearing at the World Cup, Chantal Sutherland.
The Dubai World Cup is the world’s richest race, paying out $10 million.
The race began at 3:20 pm EDT following a delay caused by an earlier accident on the track.

Godolphin's Fox Hunt, the second choice at 3-1, went down 300 yards into the 2-mile race, throwing jockey Silvestre De Sousa. The horse briefly attempted to get up but fell. De Sousa was unhurt while the extent of Fox Hunt's injury was unclear but appeared serious.
The Dubai World Cup was one of several big horse races garnering plenty of betting activity for the weekend. The Florida Derby and Louisiana Derby were both enjoying significant fanfare.
