The Clippers confirmed they will be keeping their head coach but whether Kawhi Leonard elects to stay on board remains questionable despite LA wanting to keep him
His former team, the Toronto Raptors, pays $500 for every $100 bet should he end up back there again
LA Clippers head coach Tyronn Lue is not a certainty to be dismissed after another disappointing season where the franchise once again missed the playoffs.
LA Clippers president of basketball operations Lawrence Frank confirmed that longtime head coach Tyronn Lue will continue in his role and declared that “our plan is to win” with All-Star forward Kawhi Leonard.
Despite the poor start and finish to the season, Frank said there was “never, ever, ever a consideration” of Lue being replaced as head coach.
“Even at our lowest point, when we were 6-21, there never ever was any consideration of Ty not being the coach,” said Frank, who appointed Lue as head coach to replace Hall of Famer Doc Rivers in 2020 after the Clippers blew a 3-1 lead in the Western Conference semifinals against the Denver Nuggets. “Ty’s going to be the coach here for a long, long time. And I think when you talk about partnerships, and you talk about stable organizations, when you have adversity or you go through tough stretches, you dig in and you work really, really hard at identifying the problems. Everyone takes ownership of the issues.”
But oddsmakers are not necessarily buyng that Leonard will be sticking around.
BetOnline.ag this week opened odds on Kawhi’s next team (if traded) along with Lue’s future with the organization.
The Toronto Raptors are right there in the mix promising a $500 payout for every $100 bet.
Leonard’s one year with the Raptors in 2019 featured him leading them to the postseason and having an all-time great run to the NBA Championship, so it is easy to see why they'd have the third shortest odds.
