Kevin Martin Injury a Blow to Fantasy Owners: Andrew Wiggins Increased Value
Many fantasy owners will be hurt by the news that Minnesota Timberwolves guard Kevin Martin is expected to be out for possibly up to 8 weeks. As if Minnesota can afford an injury like this with just three wins on the season.
Martin, who injured his wrist against the Knicks last week, has been a star for fantasy enthusiasts even if his star power hasn’t necessarily translated into wins. The guard has averaged 20 points and nearly three 3-pointers made per night.
Andrew Wiggins should provide daily fantasy sports aficionados with plenty of value. Corey Brewer should also benefit from Martin’s absence.
From ESPN.com:
The Timberwolves have the league's sixth-highest pace (number of possessions per 48 minutes) at 98.38. This suggests Minnesota likes to run after the rebound quite often, a scheme that plays well for Wiggins' rare athleticism as well as for Brewer's tireless style. Brewer's minutes have jumped from 23.5 over the team's first 10 games to 31.2 over the past two since. A slight jump in usage has led to only a half-point jump in offensive output. If you own Brewer (owned in just 10.3 percent of ESPN leagues), it's for his ridiculous steal rate that sees him swipe more than two per game even in limited minutes.
While Wiggins scored 14 points with a career high eight rebounds Wednesday night against the Bucks, the rookie also committed six turnovers.
