March Madness Betting Lines and Odds 2014: Who the Public is Backing

Most of the March Madness betting lines and odds are up but heavy lopsided action on some games is bound to lead to movements, some dramatic. Check out Dayton and how the oddsmakers were pushing action their way even though they were getting about 75% of the early backing.  Ohio State went from a -5 favorite earlier in the day Monday to -6.  Things that make us go hmmmm.  We think you all should pay close attention to a possible blowout by the Buckeyes though it’s still a little too early to make that definitive prediction.

On a neutral court, Gambling911.com power ratings suggest the line should be -7 favoring Ohio State.  The Buckeyes do have a slight home court advantage here.

Louisville is getting 85% of the public love vs. Manhattan as a -16 favorite.  The oddsmakers are trying to get more action on the dog here as the Cardinals had been a -14.5 favorite earlier Monday.

Michigan is seeing 70% of the public action vs. Wofford.  The Wolverines had been a -17 favorite but this one dropped to -16.

MSU was getting nearly 80% of the action vs. Delaware as a -14 favorite.  The line on this game had been -13.

March Madness betting lines for Friday had Eastern Kentucky as a +15 underdog vs. Syracuse.  While the Orange are usually a big public favorite, Eastern Kentucky was surprisingly seeing heavy 85% backing early on.  This line hasn’t moved much either.  In fact, if anything, it’s gotten a half point longer.  Let’s see if Syracuse demolishes Eastern Kentucky here based on these early indicators.

The other big lopsided matchup on Friday comes in the Oklahoma State vs. Gonzaga game where the Cowboys were seeing 80% of the action as a -2 favorite.  This line was -3 with oddsmakers seemingly encouraging bets on OSU.

It’s interesting to note that our own power ratings have this line Cowboys -1.  A little birdy tells us the bookmakers are feeling quite confident early that Gonzaga covers this one.

Sixers? Knicks? Who Can Challenge Boston in the East this Season?

As the new NBA season gets underway, there is most certainly a sense that the Boston Celtics are the team to beat once again. The 18-time champions really took an “if it’s not broken, don’t try to fix it” policy in the offseason, and it’s hard to argue with the tactic.
