Paul George really was a key piece of the Clippers cog, at least according to the oddsmakers' reaction Monday Morning.

George's deal will have him partner with MVP center Joel Embiid and All-Star guard Tyrese Maxey in pursuit of upending the NBA champion Boston Celtics.

BetOnline already semi-downgraded the Clips on the 2024-25 NBA Championship board due to the likelihood of George departing, but once official their odds plummeted farther. Here is the movement for both L.A. and the 76ers before and after the deal:

- Clippers went from 33/1 to 55/1

- Sixers went from 14/1 to 8/1

Isaiah Hartenstein heading to the Thunder also impacted the odds, but only slightly. OKC went from 7/1 to 6/1 following the move, which moved them into sole second on the board (past the Mavericks).

George, a 34-year-old nine-time All-Star, spent the past five seasons with the Clippers and averaged 23 points, 6 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.5 steals over 263 regular-season games with LA.

Sixers? Knicks? Who Can Challenge Boston in the East this Season?

As the new NBA season gets underway, there is most certainly a sense that the Boston Celtics are the team to beat once again. The 18-time champions really took an “if it’s not broken, don’t try to fix it” policy in the offseason, and it’s hard to argue with the tactic.
