Should UMBC happen to win the 2018 NCAA Men's College Basketball Championship, the payout would be a staggering $500,000 for every $100 bet at SportsBetting.ag

UMBC became the first number 16 seed to beat a number 1 seed and the odds-on favorite to win the Championship title to boot.

Maryland-Baltimore County stunned the college basketball world by pulling off the most shocking upset in sports history, let alone Men’s College Basketball.

But UMBC didn’t just beat Virginia, it dominated throughout the second half. Senior guard Jairus Lyles scored 28 points and the Retreivers cruised to an easy victory before racing off the floor together in their yellow-and-black uniforms with one finger pointed toward the sky.

“These are the moments that you dream of,” Lyles said.

Chaminade’s 77-72 stunner over Ralph Sampson and then No. 1-ranked Cavaliers in 1982 in Hawaii was generally considered the most remarkable upset in college basketball history.

Of all the College Basketball teams appearing in this year's Big Dance, UMBC had the longest odds of winning it all coming into the tournament.

“Unbelievable — it’s really all you can say,” UMBC coach Ryan Odom said.

Get Familiar With UMBC

As you can guess, the school is part of the University of Maryland system. The campus is located in Catonsville, which borders the city of Baltimore to the West. The public institution has nearly 14,000 students, a majority of which are undergraduates, according to numbers from 2014.

UMBC, named after the Chesapeake Bay Retriever, plays in the America East Conference and actually won their conference tournament this season over Vermont.  But here is the crazy thing: The Retrievers had lost 23 straight games to Vermont leading up to the America East Conference championship.
