VCU vs. Florida State Line -4: Virginia Commonwealth Gets 70 Percent of Spread Backing

The VCU vs. Florida State line comes in at -4 with the Seminoles favored as two upset-minded teams come into the Sweet 16, both knocking off top-seeded opponents.  Spread action on this game had Virginia Commonwealth getting just over 70 percent of the backing.  Most of the betting action on the 133 total was coming in on the UNDER early.  All odds courtesy of betED.com.

Florida State provided one of the Tournament’s biggest shocks by beating number two-seeded Notre Dame, and in so doing, advanced to the Sweet 16 for the first time since 1993.

"If we can stay consistent on the offensive end, I like our chances," said Derwin Kitchen, who had 10 points and six rebounds. "We've just been so up and down and inconsistent on the offensive end, it allowed us to stumble at times and lose a few games. If we can stay consistent and execute on the offensive end, I like our chances because we play so well on the defensive end."

Florida State was currently listed with 30/1 odds of winning the 2011 NCAA Championship.

VCU also managed another upset and are among the biggest surprises in this year’s Tournament.  They dismantled number 3-seeded Purdue on Sunday and advance to the Sweet 16, becoming the fourth team from the CAA to reach the Sweet 16.  Bradford Burgess led VCU with 25 points, his most in his past 19 games.  Joey Rodriguez added 12 points and 10 assists for his third double-double of the season.

Burgess said after the game:  "It wasn't easy. We just made plays out there. You see all these guys on TV, and we're watching them all year and in our heads, we're like, 'Man, we can play with these guys,'" Rodriguez said.

"We're getting the opportunity now and we're proving it."

Some interesting trends to consider:  Virginia Commonwealth is 7-0 Against The Spread in all tournaments they have played in since 1997.  The UNDER has gone 13-4 over the last three seasons for Florida State when playing on a neutral court and 3-13 in all tournament games over that period of time. 

Gambling911.com has determined the line on this game to be fairly accurate though Florida State should probably only be listed at -3.
