Wichita State Shockers Future Bets Won’t Shock Vegas Bookmakers With Title Win

The Wichita State Shockers opened the season as a 300-1 long shot to win the 2013 NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship and are within striking distance this weekend with a Final Four appearance.

Despite those long odds and the liability involved, Vegas sportsbooks are still sitting pretty.

“The liability we have on Wichita State in the futures, we’ve already covered that with what we’ve made on them in their other games,” said Stratosphere Sportsbook head Ed Malinowski in an interview with the Las Vegas Sun.  “If I had to paint the picture overall of what Wichita did for us in the tournament, it would be positive.”

“You have a handful of people who will throw $5 or $10 here and there on teams like Wichita State,” Malinowski said. “A few of those add up real quickly.”

Should the Shockers win this weekend, they will become the biggest long shot in College Basketball history to win the national championship.

It won’t be easy.  Wichita State will face the overall number one seed Louisville Cardinals as a +10.5 favorite at Bookmaker.  Spread action from the public was balanced.
