Books were hoping to avoid a blood bath with Monday's New Year's Day Rose Bowl game.  They did just that with Michigan winning in OT.

Alabama was seeing better than 65% of the action with monster volume reported.  The Crimson Tide were a rare underdog in this one.  Alabama had only been an underdog four times since 2013, going 3-1 Straight Up. The Tide were 11-5 in bowl games.

Michigan, which came into this one undefeated this season, had only won a single bowl game since 2023 out of eight.

Michigan was in the College Football Playoff for the third straight season but still seeking its first win.  They had not won a national championship since 1997.

Alabama is seeking its seventh title under coach Nick Saban and has been victorious in the semifinal in six of seven CFP appearances. Saban won his first championship with the Crimson Tide in the 2010 BCS title game in Pasadena, California.

BetOnline provided its report for the late night Sugar Bowl game.

"Not nearly the big loss the book is looking at with Alabama wins, but Washington +3.5 and ML are still significant liabilities. 77.3% of sharps betting the spread are on the Longhorns. Here is the current CFP betting split for tonight’s CPF semifinal game."

Texas vs Washington (+3.5, 61.5)

56.7% of $ on Washington +3.5

53.3% of $ on Washington +143

66.1% of $ on OVER
