What is the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Winner Record in the Kentucky Derby?
One of 2023 Kentucky Derby favorite Forte's wins was at the 2022 Breeders' Cup Juvenile.
That's not always a good thing, as Gambling.com points out here:
Breeders’ Cup Juvenile: (Nov. 4, 2022, Keeneland): With its lofty status and $2 million purse, the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile field usually includes several of the nation’s top 2-year-old colts and automatically deserves our attention. So keep an eye on Forte, who rallied from mid-pack to win the 2022 edition. But remember that Street Sense (2006) and Nyquist (2015) are the only two horses to win the Juvenile and the Kentucky Derby. Amazingly, none of the 11 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile runners in 2021 even made it to the Kentucky Derby field. Breeders’ Cup Juvenile points distribution is 30-12-9-6-3.
Forte, the 3-1 early favorite to win the Kentucky Derby, has more than just the Breeders' Cup Juvenile under his belt. In that sense he resembles Nyquist, who also won the Florida Derby his Kentucky Derby winning year.
A Florida Derby victory should override any Breeders' Cup Juvenile "curse".
Two dozen Kentucky Derby winners have been winners of the Florida Derby between the years 1953 and 2017 (65 years).
