Our friends at BetOnline recently conducted a study of the most popular cryptocurrencies by state.

For BetOnline, this is business as the vast majority of its customers now use cryptocurrencies to fund their online betting accounts.

"It's very important to understand our consumers behavior when it comes to banking," a BetOnline representative tells Gambling911.com.

Cryptocurrencies are more popular than ever with bitcoin flirting with the $100,000 mark much of this week.

The map below is based on geotagged X data in the last 30 days, tracking tweets, hashtags and direct keyword phrases about different cryptocurrencies in each state. For example, "dogecoin," "bitcoin," "BTC," "DOGE" #dogecoin, #bitcoin, #BTC, #doge, etc. Over 400,000 tweets were tracked.

As you can see from the map, bitcoin and dogecoin absolutely dominate, largely due to the 2024 election. Other cryptocurrencies were tracked, however the results were so lopsided towards dogecoin and bitcoin in each state, that those are the only two represented on the map.

The real story here is dogecoin. The fact that it has gone from a joke "meme coin" to being right next to bitcoin in the cryptocurrency conversation is nothing short of extraordinary. It will be interesting to see if this interest holds and DOGE continues to be taken more seriously, especially with how much Elon Musk seems to like it and promote it. (The formation of DOGE - Department of Government Efficiency - which Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy now lead - is no coincidence).

State breakdown:

Bitcoin - 34 states

Dogecoin - 16 states
