GM Eyeing Bitcoin Payments

(March 28, 2021 10:51 pm ) - General Motors CEO Mary Barra’s was asked during the company’s fourth-quarter earnings call whether the automobile giant might accept the cryptocurrency as a form of payment.

She responded that GM had no interest in investing in bitcoin, but as for accepting it as a currency for purchasing automobiles: “This is something we’ll monitor, and we’ll evaluate. And if there’s strong customer demand for it in the future, there’s nothing that precludes us from doing that.”

Barra did not elaborate in her remarks.

Tesla made news last month after it announced they would be jumping into the Bitcoin space.

Naver joins Morgan Stanley, Visa and JPMorgan in eyeing Bithumb stake: report

(March 25, 2021 11:50 am ) - South Korea’s largest search engine, Naver, has joined the race to acquire a stake in Bithumb digital currency exchange. According to local reports, it intends to integrate digital currencies in its payment services. The exchange has reportedly attracted the interest of global giants including Wall Street banks Morgan Stanley and JPMorgan.

The negotiations involve Vidente, the minority owner of Bithumb Korea.

As per the newspaper, Naver views the Bithumb acquisition as key to strengthening its fintech subsidiary, Naver Financial. It will start by integrating digital currency payments to Naver Pay, allowing it to cement its position in the country’s competitive fintech market.

Digital currency products would be expanded to Japan LINE, which is already active in the space.
