Can't Use the ESPN Bet App From Texas
Those in Texas will see advertisements for the newly launched ESPN Bet. Unfortunately the app is not available in the state. Residents and visitors alike can still place sports bets courtesy of websites that operate worldwide and hold a license in other jurisdictions like BetUS, which is among the oldest established brands in business now for 30 years.
Get Ready for March Madness
Now that the Super Bowl is over, it's time to look ahead at the upcoming NCAA Men's College Basketball Tournament. And Texans are in luck as the Houston Cougars sat atop the rankings - well 3rd anyway - and were the favorites to win it all as of Mid-February. Ken Pomeroy had Houston atop his rankings at least.
ESPN Power Rankings for the third week in February offered this:
"While Houston's defense gets all the headlines, the Cougars' three key metrics at EvanMiya.com all revolve around their offense. All three of their losses this season came when they attempted fewer than 15 free throws, made fewer than 33.3% of their 3-pointers and their opponent committed fewer than 15 fouls. Against Cincinnati on February 10, however, the Cougars were still able to come out with a win, despite none of those thresholds being met."
Houston is not the only Texas team heading to the Madness.
Baylor, Texas Tech, Texas, Texas A&M, TCU and SMU are all likely to punch their ticket into the Big Dance this year. The SMU Mustangs ranked the lowest on Pomeroy at No. 41.

Reigning Champ Rangers Return for MLB Action
Texas Rangers won their first World Series title with a 5-0 victory over Arizona Diamondbacks in Game 5. They were tied with the 2nd shortest odds to win the 2024 World Series with Philadelphia, promising a payout of $1000 on a $100 bet.
All eyes were glued to Jordan Montgomery as he remains a free agent. Whether he heads elsewhere remains a question as we head into late February. Montgomery is favored to go to the Yankees at 2/1.
Rangers general manager Chris Young suggested the club is not likely to pursue further acquisitions ahead of Opening Day.
“I don’t think there are any additions coming at this point,” Young told reporters, citing the organization’s diminished local broadcasting revenues on their contract with Diamond Sports Group.
While Young noted the team will “keep an open mind."
