Christopher Vizzina and Sam Leavitt

LSU's Sam Leavitt is a proven, mobile Power Four starter entering a potentially ideal Lane Kiffin offense, while Christopher Vizzina is finally getting Clemson's job after spending three seasons behind Cade Klubnik.

Leavitt transferred from Arizona State to LSU after Kiffin took over the program but sustained a foot injury midway through last season.

He played seven games, completing 145 of 239 for 1,628 yards, 10 touchdowns and three interceptions, while rushing for another 306 yards and five TDs. Arizona State went 5-2 in his starts.

“Sam had a great camp,” Kiffin said. “And I’m usually pretty hard on the evals of anyone. I can’t imagine it going much better for him.”

“I think I’ve taken a lot of strides,” Leavitt said. “Obviously, not playing football for a while, just getting back into it. You’re going to get better as you see more pictures and get used to the timing again.”

His breakout came at Arizona State in 2024, when he won Big 12 Freshman of the Year:

216-of-350 (61.7%)
2,885 passing yards
24 TD / 6 INT
443 rushing yards
5 rushing TD

Vizzina is a fourth-year junior who patiently sat behind Klubnik for three seasons. Dabo Swinney officially named Vizzina the starter this week after he beat out freshman Tait Reynolds, although Swinney has indicated Reynolds could also play tonight.

Vizzina has appeared in 14 games, but has made only one career start.

In his only start last season, Vizzina was impressive versus SMU.  He threw for 317 passing yards and 3 touchdown passes.
