Cleveland Cavs Betting Tips and Trends
The Cleveland Cavaliers were listed at No. 11 on the Sagarin Ratings as of January 5, 2024. Their odds of winning the NBA Championship were 50-1.
January 5
The Cavaliers were coming in as a -10.5 home favorite against the Washington Wizards. Cleveland, with its 19-15 Straight Up record, was sitting just under the top 10 on Sagarin. Cleveland beat the Wizards two days ago by 39 points at home.
The Cavs five prior wins were all by single digits with one exception.
December 22
Cleveland faces off next against a Chicago Bulls team whose 13-17 record needs to be overlooked as they are one of the hottest teams in the NBA at the moment, winners of seven of their last ten. The good news for Cleveland is that they've won the last four games against Chicago.
Despite their 16-13 record Straight Up the Cavs are not really delivering for gamblers this season most night as they've gone 13-16, reversing their SU record.

Winners and Whiners: ""Utah is not scoring enough points on the road, especially considering the poor defense. They have netted an average of only 106 points in their last five road games. Cleveland is superior defensively, conceding 5.6 fewer points per 100 possessions than the Jazz."
The Cavs have been putting up points at home. Coming into their game against the Utah Jazz they were winners of five of their last six home games.
The Jazz have only two wins on the road this season and all their losses were by 8 or more points and 10 or more in each of their last five road losses.
"The Cavs' starting lineup received a crushing 1-2 punch last week. Point guard Darius Garland will be out at least a month after fracturing his jaw during a collision with Boston center Kristaps Porzingis, and big man Evan Mobley will be sidelined six to eight weeks after undergoing surgery on his left knee. Cleveland responded, though, with two straight wins against Atlanta and Houston. But the Ewing Theory was supposed to cover only one marquee absence. It wasn't called the Ewing and Starks Theory." -- Dave McMenamin, ESPN
November 22
The Cavs have moved up to No. 7 on the Sagarin Ratings (93.01). That's propelled them above the Miami Heat. And with home court advantage, we get a number of Cleveland 3.94. Miami was as much as a -3 point favorite. That's an overlay of nearly 6 points and the wrong team favored.
This can be explained away with the Cavaliers (8-6) having six players on the injury report, including Donovan Mitchell.
They are also coming off of double OT the night before against the Philadelphia 76ers.
November 19
The Cavs number sat at 92.08 as they held a 6-6 record. They were just 4-8 Against The Spread. The good news is they were 5-3 in their last eight coming into their home game against reigning champs Denver.
The Cavaliers opened as a +2.5 home dog and that line moved to +3 heading into Sunday afternoon. We get a number of Denver 0.59, indicating an overlay of 2 to 2.5 points.
Overlays under the number 5 have gone 16-6 in favor of the dog so far this season.
At home last season winning or covering within 3 points (not counting the final game of the season), the Cavaliers went 16-4 from January onward. One of those losses, we should note, was to the Nuggets.
Denver does come into this game 9-3 Straight Up but just 5-7 Against The Spread. They've lost their last three on the road.
Darius Garland had a season-high 28 points and Evan Mobley and Max Strus scored 18 apiece as the Cleveland Cavaliers beat Detroit 108-100 in an NBA In-Season Tournament game on Friday night.
