Chaz Lanier 2025 Season

Lanier played three seasons at North Florida before transferring to the Vols this season.

With Tennessee, Lanier emerged as the team's leading scorer. In his first game with Tennessee, Lanier scored a team high 18 points, leading the Volunteers to an 80–64 win over Gardner–Webb.

Lanier had no second thoughts on tranferring to Tennessee.

"The program, the coaches, the players, the fan base, everybody in the community, they've welcomed me with open arms," said Lanier. "It's just a lot of love from me to the University of Tennessee. I mean, it means the world to me to come back and be able to play for my home state. It's very special. It still feels surreal that I'm putting on the Tennessee uniform, being able to represent for the University of Tennessee. So it's just a blessing all in all. But this is my home, for sure."

Chaz Lanier Recent Performance

Before he's off to the NBA next season, Lanier still has the SEC Tournament and the NCAA Tournament to perform well in. So far, so good for him there.

On Friday, Tennessee was able to take down Texas 83-72, pulling away in the second half.  The Vols were a +5.5 underdog in Saturday's game against Auburn.

“Just shows the perseverance on this team,” Lanier said. “Basketball is a game of runs, so being able to stop those runs and go your own run, it shows the toughness of this team.”

The Vols are playing in their fourth final in the last seven tournaments. They won in Tampa in 2022 and lost the title game in both 2018 and 2019. They improved to 12-8 in this tournament under coach Rick Barnes, who got his 833rd career victory.

He has recorded at least three three-pointers in four of his last five games and closes out the regular season with a team-best 17.9 ppg scoring average.
