Smart Scheduling

(October 25, 2024) - This one was expected to draw plenty of wagering from those in the New York Metropolitan and Southern California areas as it followed the World Series Game 1 between the Yankees and Dodgers.

From the Associated Press:

Fox bet it would be able to follow up Game 1 of a potential Yankees-Dodgers World Series with another game of interest to their respective metropolitan areas. The baseball teams delivered, but the Scarlet Knights and Trojans aren’t exactly providing the exciting nightcap it looked like it could have been early in the season. USC is in freefall, having dropped three straight and four of five despite leading in the fourth quarter in each of those contests. Rutgers isn’t faring much better, also having lost three in a row and making a feeble UCLA offense look like a powerhouse in a 35-32 home defeat.

Sputtering Season

USC concluded its game against Maryland in Week 8 with a 29-28 loss and 3-4 record on the season.  It appeared as if they would go 4-3 but ultimately blew a 14-point lead.

Miller Moss threw an interception in the third quarter, the defense allowed two touchdown drives in the fourth — including one after a blocked field goal — and USC blew another late lead, extending its season-sinking skid to three.

The Trojans (3-4, 1-4 Big Ten) lost their four games by a combined 14 points — all after being ahead in the second half. This time, they were up 28-14 before collapsing in excruciating fashion.

“That’s the tale of the last several weeks for us is doing some good things, get a lead and we obviously just have not been able to finish these games,” USC coach Lincoln Riley said. “It eats at you.”
