BYU Has Covered Every Game Thus Far and Remains Undefeated
No. 14 BYU (6-0) forced 4 turnovers and beat Arizona 41-19 for its best start to a season since 2020. The team has only gone 6-0 six times in school history. They easily covered the -3 to -4.5 spread as well.
Jake Retzlaff passed for 218 yards and two touchdowns and the 14th-ranked Cougars forced four turnovers to beat Arizona 41-19 on Saturday.
Darius Lassiter had 86 yards on five catches and Parker Kingston caught a touchdown pass and later threw one on a trick play for BYU (6-0, 3-0 Big 12).
"PK is awesome. He can do everything," said Retzlaff during a post game press conference. "He's a great player. He's a guy who didn't have a great few weeks to start the season, frankly. He had a drop or two in our first home game, but the guy just kept his head down, kept working and now he gets to reap those rewards. The touchdown catch today, that was awesome. I didn't have a doubt he was going to make that play."
The Cougars are bowl eligible after missing the postseason a year ago, but they have their sights set on even bigger things.
“It’s cool, but a bowl game is not what we want,” Kingston said. “We want to go to the playoff and we want to go to the national championship. That’s what we’re looking forward to, and not really settling on a bowl game this year.”
Cowboys Spiraling
Oklahoma State is a team going in the opposite direction and lending further credence to the idea that the line on this game should probably be closer to -10.
West Virginia's Jahiem White ran for 158 yards and a touchdown, and West Virginia rolled past Oklahoma State 38-14 on Saturday afternoon, hading the Cowboys their third straight loss.
The Cowboys finished with just 227 total yards, including just 36 rushing.
Alan Bowman threw two interceptions before he was benched in the third quarter. Garret Rangel replaced him and threw a 43-yard touchdown pass to De'Zhaun Stribling in the fourth quarter. Bowman has struggled throughout the losing streak, and Gundy said the extra time during the upcoming bye week will help him decide who should start going forward.
“We need to look and evaluate," he said. "I don’t want to make a decision and say something now and then it maybe not be true. But we’ll need to look and see where we’re at.”
