Line Analyses

Cal makes its debut in the Atlantic Coast Conference and seeks a 4-0 start for the first time since 2019 against reeling Florida State.

FSU opened as a -2.5 favorite hosting the Golden Bears Saturday.

Sagarin suggests a nice sized underlay for this game as Florida State still appears at No. 27 on their ratings and, with home field factored in, we get a number here of 6.27.

Underlays in the 2.5 to 3 range have done especially well according to our own model over the past two years.

Patience is wearing thin with QB DJ Uiagalelei, who is completing a career-low 56.6 percent of his passes for 666 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Uiagalelei threw for 275 yards and five touchdowns in Oregon State’s win at Cal last October. If he can have a similar performance, it will build confidence after a shaky start.

With the Florida vs. Mississippi State game, both teams seek major rebounds after home losses that have turned up the heat on their head coaches.

Mississippi State lost 45-17 to Toledo in nonleague play, which has drawn scrutiny on first-year coach Jeff Lebby while a win by Florida could buy embattled coach Napier another week.

The Gators have moved from a -5 point road favorite to -6.5.

The Iowa vs. Minnesota line hadn't budged off the -2.5 all week with the Hawkeyes a road favorite.  Both teams come into this one with 2-1 records.  Minnesota has not had a failed cover as of yet.

The number is right on the money for this game and our model does not provide an edge with this scenario.
