Joey Aguilar's total passing yards Over/Under was coming in at 213.5 for Saturday's game against Syracuse.
Per Rotowire:
Aguilar will start for the Volunteers after transferring in from Appalachian State in the offseason. The update doesn't necessarily come as a surprise as Aguilar has been presumed the leader for the starting gig for the last week or so, but it appears his play has finalized the decision for the Tennessee coaching staff. Fellow signal-caller Jake Merklinger will likely serve as the primary backup.
In 11 games last season, he posted: 218 completions out of 390 attempts (≈ 55.9% completion rate), 3,003 passing yards, 23 passing TDs and 14 interceptions.
Ahead of the 2024 season, Aguilar was named to the preseason watch lists for multiple prestigious QB honors:
Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award
Manning Award
Maxwell Award
Davey O’Brien Award
“How I play football is just the next-play mentality. Good things happen, bad things happen," Aguilar said on Media Day last month. "If you stay stuck on the good, it could — mess you up. If you stay stuck on the bad, it could mess you up. So just my mentality is to go out there and have fun and play the game I’ve been playing since I was a kid, you know what I mean? And having these guys that’s around me, I’ve got great players, great teammates, great coaches. Everybody is supportive, and we’re going to go out there to do what we do.”
