Nick Saban Would Pay Out $6600 on $100 Bet to Coach West Virginia Mountaineers
Many names have surfaced in the search for the next West Virginia Mountaineers head coach following the firing of Neal Brown after going 37-35 in six seasons. These names include the likes of Bill Belichick, Rich Rodriguez, Jimbo Fisher, and Andy Kotelnicki, but one new name entered the fold on Monday afternoon.
Nick Saban.
BetOnline released odds on Who Will Be the West Virginia Mountaineers Next Head Coach on Monday with Saban promising a payout of $6600 for every $100 bet.
Saban just happens to be a coworker of Pat McAfee’s on ESPN’s College GameDay broadcast.
McAfee discussed the prospects of Saban possibly coaching in Morgantown on Monday morning’s broadcast of the Pat McAfee Show.
“A lot of people want that job,” McAfee said. “They don’t have me working the phones, but everybody who wants the job is calling me and asking for support. I got a chance to chat with Wren Baker yesterday a little bit, and I have faith in him.”
As for Saban, McAffee offered the following:
"Saban’s having a good time. He’s enjoying College GameDay, but I don’t think he’s getting back into coaching. I have asked him 1,000 times if he wants to coach West Virginia, and he said no, but I do believe he’s interested in helping West Virginia.”
Athletic director Wren Baker announced the firing of Brown in a statement over the weekend, wishing their former coach and his family “the very best in their next endeavor.”
Baker’s statement didn’t indicate who will coach the Mountaineers in their bowl game. West Virginia will learn its bowl opponent next weekend.
