Consensus handicappers were all over the Detroit Tigers +163 hosting the New York Mets Thursday.

The line has mostly shifted between +150 and +160 and we don't see much of a deviation before game time 1:10 pm ET.

Detroit is not a horrible team.  They've won half of their last ten (5-4 their last nine).  Compare that to the Mets who have won just three games over this span. They've also lost the last two in this series this week.

The Mets are 1-5 in their last 6 after allowing 5 runs or more in their previous game and 1-5 in their last 6 games with the total set at 7.0-8.5.

The Tigers are 5-0 in their last 5 interleague home games, 7-1 in their last 8 interleague games but are 0-4 in their last 4 during game 3 of a series.

Justin Verlander (shoulder) notched six strikeouts over 4 2/3 scoreless innings in a rehab start with Double-A Binghamton on Friday and was set to make his season debut for the Mets Thursday in Detroit.

Verlander went 18-4 last year with a 1.75 ERA.

It's not as if Eduardo Rodriguez, starting for Detroit, deserves to be a +160 home dog against a .500 Mets team starting a guy who's coming off an injury.

Rodriguez is 2-2 with a 2.21 ERA. He's allowed just 10 hits off of 56 at bats versus Mets hitters.  None of those were home runs.  Only one was an RBI. Tommy Pham is 4 for 14 against him but he's just averaging .235 this season.

Rodriguez yielded one run over 5 2/3 innings on Saturday in a win over the Orioles his last start and allowed only one hit over seven innings Sunday in a no-decision versus the Orioles.  He won his previous start.  That's consistency for you.

Yep this was a big winner.
