'A sense of panic' - what's going on in Turkish football?
That's the blaring headline that appears on the BBC website from over the past week as an investigation into Turkish football continues.
A series of police raids have taken place, arrests have been made and more than 1,000 players have been suspended as the scope of the inquiry continues to grow.
Among those arrested, Metehan Baltacı, the Galatasaray defender. He was detained and later jailed pending trial in connection with the insider betting investigation.
Mert Hakan Yandaş, the Fenerbahçe midfielder and captain, was also arrested and jailed pending trial with prosecutors alleging he placed bets through a third party.
Alassane Ndao, the Konyaspor winger has also been reported among those taken into custody in the broader crackdown.
Turkish Football Federation (TFF) president Ibrahim Haciosmanoglu said at a press conference last week he saw "a growing sense of panic" within Turkish football "as operations deepen".
Last month the TFF suspended 1,024 players from its professional leagues as part of an investigation into betting.
Utah Convenience Store Chain Provided Online Gambling, Prescription Meds, Police Say
At least six people have been arrested Sunday December 14 following an undercover investigation into online gambling and illegal prescription drug distribution at a chain of convenience stores in Salt Lake County.
The investigation into Quik Pik Markets in Taylorsville, Midvale, West Valley City and West Jordan began in February of last year.
"Over the span of approximately one year and 10 months, detectives identified four separate locations using the same business name 'Quik Pik Market,'" one of the affidavits states. "Detectives received information that employees at each location were selling prescription medication identified as Sildenafil, as well as providing a form of online gambling to customers." Slidenafil is a drug to help erectile dysfunction.
Following multiple undercover operations, police "were successfully able to purchase both gambling tickets and prescription medication," the affidavit states.
Search warrants were served Thursday at the four Quik Pik Markets. Jasneek Singh Hora, 45, Harshal Katyal, 25, Vishal Vishal, 22, "Hardeep," 22, Sunny Kapoor, 26 and Mauricio Enrique Campos, 27, were each arrested for investigation of online gambling and illegal selling of prescription drug charges.

San Antonio Man Indicted in Shooting That Left Two Dead, injured 5 at Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino
Keryan Jones, 34, was arrested in connection with the deadly shooting at Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino on Sept. 28. The indictment occurred on December 2 with the KSAT San Antonio first reporting on it over the weekend. Jones bond was raised to $5.1 million and is scheduled to be arraigned Jan. 7, 2026.
He is facing the following charges:
- Two counts of capital murder
- Five counts of assault with a deadly weapon
- Aggravated assault with a deadly weapon
- Exhibiting a deadly weapon while committing an assault

Kickapoo Tribe police officers arrived at the casino just after 11:45 p.m. on Sept. 27 in the 700 block of Lucky Eagle Drive, which is near the U.S.-Mexico border.
The Justice of the Peace had confirmed to KSAT that Marcus Antley, a retired U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agent, and Alicia Sanchez, a Dimmit County resident, were the two people killed at the casino on Sept. 27.
Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas previously said in a statement that the five injured people were taken to medical facilities in Eagle Pass and San Antonio.
The casino opened six days after the shooting on Oct. 3.
Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino Hotel is located in Eagle Pass, approximately 149 miles southwest of San Antonio.
