According to the New York Times, the $48m deal marks the same amount prosecutors said he owed in an alleged tax fraud case, in exchange for the eventual dismissal of charges if he complies with the agreement’s terms.

The deal reflects the shifting approach to crypto regulation under President Donald Trump whereas the prior administration of President Joe Biden had taken a more restrictive approach as it pertained to cryptocurrencies. 

Ver, 46, rose to prominence in Bitcoin’s early years for his relentless evangelism. His efforts earned him the nickname “Bitcoin Jesus.”

Whether the US president pardons Ver is a different story.

9 percent of those taking part in this betting market believe Trump will pardon Ver. That betting market cracked the Top 10 most active briefly Wednesday morning and was the 11th most active betting market as this was going to press.
