Well, that didn't take long.

Just over a month into the 2022-23 NHL season, and we saw our first head coach fired. The Edmonton Oilers apparently "couldn't wait" to dismiss Jay Woodcroft and they did so over the weekend.

"We're ready to win. We're ready to do whatever it takes to win, more importantly," alternate captain Leon Draisaitl said before the start of training camp. "We're definitely not far away. I certainly feel that way. I think we all do. I think the entire league feels that way about us."

There is still plenty of time to right their season.

So...who's next on the chopping block? SportsBetting.ag, which had Woodcroft as a heavy favorite to be fired first, has now posted odds for which coach will be canned next.

Ottawa's D.J. Smith is the favorite with the Senators off to a sluggish, yet not horrific, 6-7 start. Dean Evason, Andrew Brunette and David Quinn all have 6/1 odds or better to be fired next.

The Minnesota Wild head coach Evason pays $400 on a $100 bet should he be next to get purged.
