Should Avatar win an Academy Award for Best Picture, the risk vs. reward will be well worthwhile. Avatar Academy Awards odds were still listed at even Sunday morning at BetUS.com (see website here) after The Hurt Locker overtook the box office smash earlier in the week as the new favorite to win in that category.
The oddsmakers at BetUS.com were already predicting Avatar James Cameron to upset his ex-wife (Kathryn Bigelow, Director of The Hurt Locker) Sunday night.
Tim Furious of BetUS.com tells us: "I broke down in my Best Picture betting preview that one of the elements of Avatar that I marveled at was its visual effects and that's what essentially makes Cameron my favorite bet of the night. Avatar is a fantastic film, but more so because of what it accomplished as a production and less because of its story."
In contrast to Avatar, The Hurt Locker has failed to perform well at the box office.
Bigelow is the -500 favorite to win the award for "Best Director" as well. Cameron has great value here with the potential to pay out $30 for every $10 bet.
