BetOnline has your Best Documentary Feature odds for the 2026 Oscars.
The Perfect Neighbor comes in as the favorite at relatively generous -180 odds. You would need to bet $18 to win $10 and that $18 is returned provided the film takes the Oscar. You are basically profiting $10 for every $18 bet.
The documentary was directed by Geeta Gandbhir about a shooting incident on June 2, 2023 where a white female, Susan Louise Lorincz, fatally shot Ajike Owens, her black female neighbor, in Ocala, Florida.
What made the documentary compelling is that it mostly relied on pre-existing police footage such as bodycams to tell the sad story.
The victim, Ajike Owens, was the best friend of Gandbhir's sister-in-law.
“We’re really lucky to be able to play a film like this, that is shone with an unimaginable directness that I think is unforgettable,” says programmer Sudeep Sharma as he makes his introduction and welcomes director Geeta Gandbhir to the podium for the premiere. “I’m just so grateful to have you all here today,” Gandbhir said. “And I want to thank Sundance. For this film to be at Sundance is so meaningful, in this community which takes so much care and consideration with the films and the participants. It’s incredibly meaningful to us. I also want to thank my film team, and I want to thank the family of Ajike Owens for trusting us with this story.”
Mr. Nobody Against Putin pays out slightly better than $200 for every $100 bet.
Directed by David Borenstein and Pavel Talankin. the film follows Talankin in his job at a school in Karabash, a poor mining town near the Ural Mountains. While recording his students, Talankin also documents the Putin administration's moves to control public perception during the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian war.
